These lights are very effective. The hardware is basic but adequate and the wiring relatively easy to set up. Installation took me about 2 hours. I could not get the on/off switch to illuminate but I'm not really 100% sure that its supposed to, although it looks like an illuminated switch. The lights themselves are fantastic. They provide a lot of focused illumination, if aimed correctly, exactly where you need it and are a huge improvement for night driving. We're using these on a Dodge 4X4 truck and we drive a lot of rural, twisty mountain roads. The OEM Dodge headlights are not very effective compared to the Hella's, even with upgraded 'xenon' bulbs. Frankly, I don't know how we saw much without these auxilary lights. So far, they seem to stay aimed and not loosen up and the covers are great for daytime protection against stones/debris. Installing and removing the covers does not mess up the lights' aim if done correctly. Pretty good value for the price. Instructions could be a little more detailed and mounting options could be shown. Overall, very satisfied.

the Hella 500 were easy to install but I think I was hoping they were were brighter. I may purchase some brighter bulbs for them No real complaints well worth the money.

Bought these a few years back, and use them a lot during the "dark months" to avoid hitting large critters at night. Very good focused lighting for the money, simple to install, and pretty durable.

If you're driving in daylight, especially in winter with roads loaded with glass busting salt chunks and gravel, best you keep the covers on. I spray painted the covers flat black and touch them up each summer. No free ads on my front bumper. I know, the covers are a nuisance to be taking off and putting on, but it's better than replacing the lens, and in real cold weather, just switch them on a few seconds and the warm covers come off nice and easy. Just don't keep these lights burning with the covers on. Good idea to have a lighted switch that lets you know they are turned on. I passed on the various Hella aftermarket lens protectors because I like to clean the lights when i squeegee the windshield, and when the stock covers are on, they stay clean anyway.

Mine have a separate switch that is wired in with the high beams, using a relay. That way you don't blind people leaving them on when you go to low beams.

I bought a second pair for spares, and haven't had to dig them out yet.
